John Villamil-Casanova is currently the Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer for ASPIRA Association, Inc., the largest national Latino non-profit organization, devoted to the education and leadership development of Puerto Rican and other Latino youth. In this position, John is responsible for developing and managing national educational and information technology programs, and for developing partnerships and funding strategies to implement these programs.
From 1990 through 1997, John worked extensively with Miami Dade Community College’s Wolfson Campus. He was the Associate Dean for the school of science, architecture, engineering, and interior design; the Associate Dean for instructional resources; and program and curriculum development director for the teaching/learning resource center. From 1985 through 1990 John served as Academic Dean of one of the largest private universities in Puerto Rico. Mr. Villamil-Casanova has also worked extensively with the Department of Natural Resources in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. In addition, John has extensive experience in business development such as television stations, agro-industrial businesses, hotels and shopping centers when working as Vice President of Planning and Development for a regional development corporation and as strategic planning consultant.
John earned his bachelor and master degrees in biology from the University of Puerto Rico. He also attended Florida International University’s graduate school of education for doctoral studies. Mr. Villamil-Casanova is a seasoned board member, having served on various boards and national advisory committees throughout his career. He has also authored fifteen multimedia-based educational CD-ROM’s, he is a seasoned text book author and has been published in numerous scientific journals and government publications.
