How are the Industry and Peer Group Averages derived?

The peer group averages are a weighted average of the data of all companies in the peer group. Likewise, the industry group averages are a weighted average of all the companies in the industry group (see above for an explanation of peers and industries). The weighting is determined by the annual sales of the companies within the group for a given fiscal year. Because we strive to have a set of data that is as complete as possible, the averages for the previous calendar year are not available until approximately mid-August, when all fiscal year data for the previous year is available.
