Why does the data seem stale?

Depending upon specific Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) rules, after each reporting period (quarter or fiscal year), a company may have up to 90 days to file its financial reports with the SEC. Morningstar uses publicly available data, including SEC reports to compile the financial data provided in their data service. In times of heavy reporting (February and March), Morningstar may take up to 3 weeks to populate the data in the database. Morningstar may choose to provide a limited set of preliminary data before data is finalized in the database.
