Description
Surviving the Next Recession and Bear Market
For unprepared investors, recessions and bear markets can wreak havoc with a stock portfolio. However, armed with the right intelligence, the smartest stock picking approach, and sound portfolio management practices, investors can turn the market's disasters into opportunities. Doug will review his team's approach to stock selection before, during, and after down and sideways markets, and provide evidence for a savvy stock strategy based on the market's long-term directional biases.
Doug's Favorite Small-Cap Stocks for 2026 (and Why He Likes Them)
It’s commonly said that there are strong stock buys in any market—but finding them is not always easy! Fortunately, Doug has some ideas for individuals and investment clubs, taken from the two market-beating newsletters that he edits, the Investor Advisory Service (named for 15 consecutive years to the “Hulbert Investment Newsletter Honor Roll” and which celebrated its 50th year in 2023) and the SmallCap Informer (celebrating its 14th year in 2026 with a long-term track record outperforming the small-cap stock indexes).
Know when to Sell, Wait, Hold, or Buy: Five Levels of Stock Valuation
How many of your stocks languish in the “maybe” zone? Are you sitting on the fence, and doing nothing? Sound familiar? These stocks are the Achilles’ heel of your portfolio. The SSG makes it possible to determine "optimal" buy and sell prices. But the problem is that these “optimal” prices don’t convince you to make a buy or sell decision, leaving you in limbo. Weak company fundamentals make a stock look cheap. Stocks that have had significant price increases, approaching their sell price, possibly should not be sold. With a better understanding of the five levels of stock valuation, you may be able to make better decisions. Learn the difference between “busted,” “under,” “fairly,” “over,” or “hyper-valued” stocks. This is the first step in getting off the fence!
For more than 30 years, Doug Gerlach has been helping individual investors to make smarter investing decisions. He is the author of six financial books and editor of three stock newsletters—the award-winning Investor Advisory Service, the market-beating SmallCap Informer and the Dividend Informer. Doug has presented at hundreds of online and in-person events around the world, including for AAII and BetterInvesting local chapters and their national conferences.
